Artist Statement: In this piece of artwork I notice a lot of symmetry. I also noticed the use of coils and slabs. Some coils are laced while others are just long. There are various shapes cut from the slabs. There was no artist used as inspiration for this piece of art. I tried to incorporate some of the elements of design such as shape and line in this project. I also attempted to incorporate a certain texture as you can see with the the circular holes. When I was making this project I was thinking about how I can fit on the tile without making it look crowded. I new the twisted coils would divide the tile into four areas. From that point I was trying to replicate the same look in each of those four areas. The tile doesn't really have a function, it is more of a decorative thing. I do like the way my project turned out. Overall, I think it looks really consistent and clean. The twisted coils worked really well for me in the making of this project. Another component that was successful was the spiral coil in the center. Something that was not as successful was the smoothing of the project. There were a lot of tight areas where it was hard to smooth and get rid of these little excess pieces of clay.
